Bastrop Fire Animals up for Adoption on Monday
posted Wed, Sep 28, 2011
The Bastrop Animal Authority decided that on Monday, October 3rd, all unclaimed Bastrop fire animals will go up for adoption both at the Austin Humane Society and at Bastrop County Animal Control. That will mark one month after the fires. Any animals that have been claimed by their owners but are currently being housed at AHS will not go up for adoption, even if the owner cannot yet pick up the animal. We believe that many of the unclaimed animals here at AHS are strays because of their behavior and long-term medical conditions that have not been treated. However, if an animal is adopted and an owner comes forward later, that will be handled on a case by case basis. We are working diligently to find the owners of these animals through news, PSA's, websites, and photo books in the city of Bastrop. As a non-profit with limited space, we cannot house unclaimed animals indefinitely. If we did, we could not rescue other homeless pets and euthanasia levels at municipal shelters would increase. We ask that you continue to help us spread the word about unclaimed animals so that hopefully we can get all owned animals reunited!
